  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a credit claims handler: - Monitor claims - Make liability decisions - Control of claims from start to finish - Deal with an array of customers and credit hire organisations - Proactively manage a claim throughout the claim cycle - Negotiate and reduce invoices received from Credit Hire organisations. - Attempt to make decisions which will reduce the costs for the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learn a variety of different skills: - Negotiating skills; constantly dealing with a different array of credit hire organisations has improved my negotiating skills greatly. - Communication skills; dealing with so many different people has meant that my communication skills have improved. - Insurance; as a whole I have learnt a vast amount in regards to the insurance industry, and the process as a whole.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed the program because: - Great guidance and support - I have learnt so much in such a short space of time - Everyone is really friendly and are always okay to answer any questions or queries. - Developed knowledge of the insurance industry greatly as a result of this programme. - Would recommend anyone to apply as the support is fantastic!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well structured: - The first month was spent learning all the ins and outs of insurance in a class room environment. - We were then put out onto the floor and were provided with trainers which would assist us with the claim cycle, and how to use the relevant software.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have received a great amount of support from Direct Line: - The training they have provided has made me able to proactively manage a claim, and deal with it on the best possible terms. - They are constantly providing sessions so that we can learn new things or ask questions on stuff that we may be unsure of.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have a tutor that comes in once a month, they will go through any work that would of been set and will also provide us with the support so that we can complete the qualification. I have found this extremely helpful, and I feel like I can go into the exam with confidence when it arises.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification itself provides insight into the entire insurance industry, not just one aspect, so this has greatly assisted me in performing better within my role, but also with my knowledge of the insurance industry. I look forward to keep developing my skills further, and have found the training provider of great use.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are always events going on within the workplace, whether that be fund raising or charity events, as well as this they have also set-up some apprentice events for all of the apprentices within the Direct Line Group, this was really fun, we got to meet apprentices from across the country.

  • Yes

  • I would recommend Direct Line to a friend because: - The training and support is second to none, and has allowed me to fulfil my role as a credit claims handler. - Everyone within the workplace is extremely friendly and always willing to help. - It is within the 'TOP 3 places to work within the UK!'


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Direct Line?
  • Tips and advice would be; - Don't worry if you don't have any previous insurance knowledge, direct line will provide you with knowledge and knowhow to successfully fulfil your role. - Get ready to learn- the insurance industry is constantly changing, and there is a lot to learn in the initial start.
