  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Being a work experience student, my role within the firm during the experience was extremely unique. As I moved from desk to desk, I was enabled to gain a first-hand insight into the different types of work Pinsent Masons does. Proof reading important contracts was something I particularly enjoyed as I felt I had added resposibility which I thrived upon. On a day to day basis, the people of Pinsent Masons made me feel extremely welcome. They were extremely friendly and helpful, making the experience a whole lot more comfortable.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Speaking to trainees on a daily basis, I felt I developed a wide range of existing skills. Although I did have some insight into the qualifications required for law, it was useful to know more about the qualifications current trainees had. I also learnt a lot about the typical working day at an international law firm which was something I can carry forward into the future. Working in a highly professional environment was something new to me, however simultaneously, I learnt that it was imperative to be yourself.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Pinsent Masons?
  • I was introduced to a wide range of people, from trainees to partners. Everyone treated me as an employee - not a burden or disturbance in any shape or form. From the trainees I worked with, I now have many of their contacts and they made it clear that if any form of issue arises in the future, to contact them. Some of the trainees handed me real trainee tasks to undergo and a partner in the construction team handed me 3 important contracts to proof. To have got accepted onto the work experience scheme made me feel valued, however, having completed the work experience scheme made me feel 10x more valued as a person and potential employee.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme was very well organised. I always had something different to do on a daily basis. Morning presentations were consistent as were lunch breaks. The programme also was flexible as it was tailored to individuals' needs. For example, one evening I had to leave an hour early by which the firm were 100% fine with. At the beginning of the week, I was given a full induction and before working at each desk, I was given a mini brief.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Each of the trainees I worked with were extremely supportive and happy to help. I appreciated the way trainees ingrain realism with professionalism, creating a supportive environment. I felt comfortable to speak to my trainee buddy if I ever had a task-based problem and they always helped no matter how busy they were. The support I received was delicately linked to how much I enjoyed the programme.
