  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to help customers out regarding any queries they may have relating to their claims. Day to day I am required to take calls from policy holders and to progress their claims as much as I can. I am also required to work activities on these claims to push for progression between calls.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt plenty of new skills. I was never one to be confident in speaking to strangers over the phone but now it's my job! The role has definitely helped increase my confidence and competency in a administration role. My team leader also helps me develop my problem handling skills too in any way within her control.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Organisation I feel can be improved within my programme. I have discussed my concerns with the Apprenticeship Representatives within the company and also with my team leader and mentor. There are elements that should be improved upon across the company but all in all, we're doing well and no one in my team is falling behind.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I think this is another area within my programme that may need improvement. My trainer is always on call with any queries but regarding the programme related issues, there's a lot of confusion when discussing with our training provider. However Babington do provide a support helpline which is a great resource.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I definitely feel my qualification with help me perform better in my role. Through the resources and training material we receive, we gain a better working knowledge of the Insurance industry and the laws/regulations in force that we and the general public have to adhere to. • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are indeed. We have a special team dedicated to cultural celebration within the company which I think has given us many opportunities to get involved, we have bake sales, competitions, decorating the office, gifts during festive times. It's wonderful. We even have a budget for team outings during the Christmas time too.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Direct Line to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have recommended Direct line to my friend and sister. Direct line is a great company to work for and I really enjoy it here. They offer great benefits, plenty of support and great pay too. They do need treat their employees like commodities. We are a valued part of the company as claims handlers.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Direct Line?
  • If you're applying to Direct line, I'd advise you to be yourself and be honest. They're not looking for the most qualified or the best talker. They want real people who will engage with their customers. Be honest about your shortfalls and they will always help you develop that.
