  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm a test analyst on a project to do with smart meters. On a day to day basis I will analyse defect, create test scripts, run test scripts. If I find an issue then I raise a defect and the development team will fix it and I will then retest.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The Degree I am enjoying a lot and I have learnt a lot in the first year I have been there. Work side of things I do not enjoy as much. I have been in the same role for 2 1/2 years now and I want to move onto something new. However, this is being made hard for me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The degree apprenticeship is very well structured. I know all the dates I need to have to submit all my essays and the content is good. However, the teaching this semester has been debatable. The university keep us well informed of what is going on and I couldn't ask for much more.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive little to no help from my employer. The only person who helps me is my Mentor. He reads through all of my work before submitting it and he rewords and tells me how to better it. I think my managers need to be informed how difficult it actually is as they don't really seem to care.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support when I ask for it from the university of Winchester. Because I am a transition student they have been really supportive as they understand that this is my first year at university and are more than willing to help as much as they can.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Because I have not been allowed to move roles the training which I have received at the uni does not really rub off onto my day to day role. It has allowed me to become more confident and understand the business process more, but other than that not much. This is why i'd like to move into a business role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are, we have the SSC. This is the sports and social club and they are always offering sports activities and social things to do with other members in the companies. I have participated in rounds, football and even gone to watch the horse racing at Ascot for firework night.

  • 9a. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Offered me everything I could have asked for and have sponsored me to complete my degree. People say taking the apprenticeship is the easy way out, but it is not at all. Doing a degree apprenticeship is a lot harder as you are working as well as doing academic work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • Be yourself, want the job rather than wanting a job for the sake of it. I recently took part in a interview session and you could really tell the difference between people wanting the job and people wanting to get onto the programme for the sake of getting onto the programme.
