Apprentice Surveyor Review

I am an apprentice surveyor based in Central London, my day to day roles include report writing, analysis of market rents, inspections and measuring. This means I am not stuck at the desk all day. I have the freedom to interact with clients personally and also build my skills up through university training and on the job.

During my time in my apprenticeship so far I have been able to develop existing skills while also learning and growing new ones. During my apprenticeship I have also learnt where I am good at things and also been given the relevant support internally at work and externally via my university when I have been struggling.

Throughout my time in my apprenticeship I have found that the programme has far succeeded my expectations. The trust and independence that you receive from the outset is key to developing on a personal and technical level to progress. My team within my company have been a great help and constantly supportive in anything I have done.

Within your programme at this company there is a good structure and also a opportunity to adjust your timetable of study and work around what suits you best. Within the programme you will work 4 days and study one day a week. It is completely up to you and your line managers discretion on which days these are each week to suit you/them.

Throughout my apprenticeship there has been a constant support from my employers, not only from my managers but throughout the team and surrounding teams within the office. Whether it being work related or study related I have had never had a point where I felt like I couldn't ask someone for there help.

During my studies and in particular during my time with my training provider/university I have received constant support/ feedback. Any time of the day I can email/message a tutor about something and received same day feedback. The feedback received when it comes to exams and assignments is detailed and clear on the positives and negatives and where I can improve.

In the type of work I do day to day the qualifications that I am working towards is heavily influential on my day to day job. I am constantly using the things I have learnt via university. The more I learn and develop in my day to day job,the more independence I receive while working with clients.

There are a range of activities to get involved with at work, we have sports teams that compete in inter company tournaments, charity sports days, constant opportunities to socialise with the team and people in other teams. In particular with the apprenticeship there is an opportunity to socialise with other apprentices internally and externally with friends from university in the industry also. The professional networking within my company is also top quality and the provision for this is brilliant.

The quality of the training provided mixed with the friendly nature of the company with the provision to socialise and network while learning on the job is the best combination for developing professionally while gaining a degree in such a vocational line of work. It is the perfect combination for progressing within such a well established firm.

Always be punctual, working hard is noticed and rewarded. Keep up with your university work, if you are struggling with the balance, the provision is there for you to be given more time for your studies. The people in your team want to see you progress, the support is always there and never be afraid to ask for it.
