My role is to support the service users in a supported living setting. I ensure support is being given appropriately, i complete medication checks and finance checks, support the management team and support the staff. I will be partaking in supervisions with staff soon which I am looking forward to.
I have learnt how to take criticism and how not to take it personally. I have learnt how to manage my time appropriately. My computer skills have also greatly improved as my course is based online with lots of online resources. I find my knowledge of current policies and procedures have also developed.
I enjoy my course as I love to learn. It is a fantastic course, with amazing support and brilliant resources to help me complete assignments. My course is mainly based online but also have face to face meetings with a trainer. I am contacted by email, phone or skype and can contact them whenever i need to.
At the start, it was a bit slow going due to the volume of people Lifetime Training provide courses for, but now I am enrolled and have been completing assignments, I find it very organised and I know when I speak to my trainer etc. I like how I can see each assignment and each module and that it gets visually ticked off when i complete it.
My manager is very supportive and helps me where she can. She allocated me 8 hours a week to complete my course, paid, which is a fantastic help. My manager always asks me how my course is going and how I am finding things. She also lets me use work resources to support my assignments.
My trainer has recently changed and I haven't had a session with her yet, but my first trainer was brilliant and would support me anytime if i had questions. She would ask me questions about my learning, and would help me if i lacked understanding on a module in an assignment.
It gives me a better understanding of the management side of care work. It helps me realise my potential. It supports my learning, and has helped my confidence. I am able to put my assignments into practice which is great when I see that I have managed to put what I learned into action.
There is not extra curricular activities at my workplace due to the nature of the work involved. Sometimes there may be opportunities to go to award events based at head office, and the service users have opportunities to interview potential staff members too which is unique and amazing. We do have Christmas and summer parties though!
Yes
Because my workplace is a fun, vibrant place to work. Every day is different and there are opportunities to learn, grow, laugh and change somebodies life. The service users we have are friendly and welcoming. Its a lovely place to work. The staff team are hardworking and kind and the management are supportive.
My advice would be, if you aren't willing to put others first, try new things, spend time working with these individuals, enrich their lives and even sacrifice your home life, then perhaps this is not the company for you. This job is more than a paycheck at the end of the month.
