  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I sit within the property management team and I have a range of roles and responsibilities. I am essentially the middle-man between a landlord (my client) and tenants of properties. This includes dealing with arrears (rent, service charge, insurance etc.), general issues, health and safety, insurance, sustainability projects and statutory compliance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a whole range of new skills since the start of the apprenticeship. This includes public speaking, my confidence in general, my ability on computers (for example Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and emails), my communications skills (emails, meetings, phone calls) and general property management skills such as inspections and measurement.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme hugely. I have learnt so much from the day I started and I am still learning. I have met some great people along the way and I have been working with and amongst some of the best in the industry. Every day is different and I particularly enjoy getting out and about to inspect properties.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say the apprenticeship scheme is very well structured. The CSTT in particular are a great gateway into the surveying industry. Savills have adapted extremely well and provide really good support to all the surveying apprentices. The apprentice team are all very approachable and have helped me along the way.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My company provide the exact amount of support you need to complete the apprenticeship. They are very approachable and helpful when needed. There are frequent meetings and updates that allow us to share ideas and obtain the support that we need. My colleagues are also very helpful, not just the apprenticeship team.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Whilst I am now coming towards the end of my apprenticeship, the Chartered Surveyors Training Trust provided fantastic help throughout the five year programme. I was in constant contact from start to end and they really helped with finding an employer and finding the correct college and degree courses to apply for.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications are very helpful and have provided me with some crucial knowledge that I apply from day to day. The idea of working whilst gaining an understanding of the basics go hand in hand and I believe I am a better surveyor for it. I would say that the qualifications are the foundation to my knowledge and my job allows me to build on that.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • My company is very sociable and there are a number of extra-curricular activities that I can get involved with. I joined the football team within the first month of joining Savills and this has helped me make friends in teams that I wouldn't have usually come across. There are always networking events and conferences which allow us to meet new people.
