  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day to day my job role changes, I do 3 secondments a year in Sales, Marketing and Engineering. I am Currently with the marketing department where I am helping launch a new product, this involves writing press releases, making videos and making presentations. I have also been on site visits with salesmen which has given me a good insight of the industry.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining Schneider in September I have become a much more confident person and have developed my people skills. I have also developed my presentation skills as I have to do presentations about what I have done so far and presentations to the sales team related to products. As there are two other apprentices who joined at the same time as me we have been able to work together and help each over in our secondments, this has developed out abilities to work in a team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • As everyday is different there is a lot a variety in my role meaning it's always exciting. Also it is interesting to see all of our products being used when I go out on site visits. It is interesting to see how all the departments work together, as I'm doing secondments in all departments across industry I get to see the whole process.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured very well, I know all my goals and when I need to achieve them. I also have meetings with my managers and supervisors every week to make sure I know what I'm doing and if I need any help with anything. As it is a relatively new programme for Schneider they listen to any advice I have which I think will improve it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • All the staff in the office are very supporting and approachable (from engineers to presidents). I have meetings with my managers and supervisors at least once a week where they help me with any problems I have. As well as that though I know I can go to anyone in the office and they will make time to help me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Most of the lecturers are very good and I know that if I'm struggling on a subject they will help me to understand. However there are some who although they're very approachable don't always describe some of the subjects in the best way. All the staff are very friendly and I know if I have any work or none work related problems I would be able to ask them for help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • College has given me a better understanding of basic electrical principals which has helped me understand a lot more. We have also done panel wiring at college which has been useful when I had to make a test rig as I knew how to wire correctly and more importantly to the correct safety standards.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At work I have been encouraged to become a STEM ambassador, so I have been involved in trips to schools and a couple of careers events. As well as this I play golf after work once a week with some of the people around the office. I have also joined the "Social Club" which means I get invited to all kinds of events, for example, rugby games and other sporting events.

  • Yes

  • I would recommend Schneider Electric to a friend as in my opinion it is a great company with a lot of good benefits. As well as the company and the benefits offered though, all the staff are very friendly and want to help you progress in your training and role with the company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Schneider Electric?
  • The best advice I could give to someone who's applying is to keep an open mind about the role you want in the company. As when I started I thought I just wanted to be an engineer, however, I have really enjoyed my sales and marketing secondments and there are many roles I can go into once I'm qualified. Also it's important to speak to people as everyone want to help you but you need to ask.
