  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role at the moment I have been shadowing engineers and helping them on site. I have worked in field services maintaining our products out in the field. I have also worked in commissioning commissioning new systems on sites. I also have to watch online uni lectures at night after work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skills in my time working for Schneider, I have learnt lots about their products that they do which I had no knowledge on before starting. I have also learnt how the systems work as a whole in the buildings and sites I have been working on.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • In my short time that I have worked for Schneider electric up until this point I have enjoyed it. I enjoy being out working on site the most as I enjoy doing practical work. I have found some of the university work challenging at times but there is always help for that.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation of my apprenticeship programme in Schneider electric is quite organised but with my set of apprentices being the first year that they have done this there is obviously some issues sometimes, but these are easily sorted out in interviews or just by asking one of our managers a question about it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In my apprenticeship with Schneider I receive lots of support from the company as I am always working with other engineers on site or at uni with other apprentices. The engineers on site help lots sharing their knowledge on the work we are doing and teaching me how to do things correctly

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The university will me quite a bit when I am doing my course with them as we have online lectures on a couple of days each week where we can ask the lecturers questions regarding the work we are doing at the time and we also have campus weeks where we see the lecturers in person and can ask questions then

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that my qualification I am working towards in my apprenticeship does help me to perform better in my role as it gives me more of an understanding on the systems I am working with. It also gives me an understanding on other engineering principles I will use throughout my career

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At Schneider electric we are able to get involved in extra-curricular activities. When we started we were involved in a welcome week to get to know all of the other people we will see and work with at schneider. We are also going on a week away doing team building and leadership exercises to help us in the future

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend it to a friend because I think that Schneider electric is a good company to work for and gives you lots of career paths for the future. Also the staff that work for them already are very friendly and welcoming so you will feel like part of a team


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Schneider Electric?
  • If you are applying for Schneider electric I think you have to make sure you work hard and be able to push yourself out f your comfort zone. You must be able to talk to people as keeping a good relationship with customers is a vital part of the business
