  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt several new skills since the start of my apprenticeship. As i hadn't previously studied accountancy i was introduced to bookkeeping as well as many other aspects of accountancy. My communication skills and teamwork skills have greatly developed since starting my role. Previously, i didn't feel comfortable ringing people which seems like a small task to many, but when you have never really done it before it can be nerve racking. I am now able to ring many clients requesting information or ringing suppliers on behalf of companies.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the programme i involved in due to the new experiences and opportunities that i have been introduced for. I've met new people and life long friends from starting my programme last August. Although there can be times that are stressful, there are always people to turn to to ask for help.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that the programme is effectively organised. I know who to turn to when i need help whether it relates to my personal studies with college or whether it relates to the work itself. Moreover, there are exam training managers as well as support teams to help people out. There is a plan of when exams will be taken and what steps to take next with appraisals with managers as well as other colleagues.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recieve a great deal of support from my employer. There are individual teams to help with whatever may be an issue as well as a whole variety of online guides and extra work activities/incentives that can help with personal life. In terms of work on a day-to-day basis there is also a great deal of help there. There is an atmosphere that allows you to turn to anyone for help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There are exam training managers that you can turn to for extra help or revision etc.. when it is needed. In addition, there are regular catch ups with managers to see how you are getting on with your studies and whether you will need extra assistance in them. Moreover, there are other colleagues who have been through the same process and are always happy to help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The work at college often seems to coincide with the day-to-day jobs. This was greatly beneficial at first because when i had a very limited knowledge of accounting techniques it became a great help understanding the basics alongside when i first started. In addition, the courses that coincide continually help to develop my skills and help perform more effectively on new jobs.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend RSM because of the inviting atmosphere they provide as well as the opportunities they provide for new starters such as myself including the qualifications and the training as well as the support they provide for all of their staff. I would also recommend the firm because they are a large international firm that have local offices across the country.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSM?
  • For people applying to RSM there are quite a few tips and pieces of advice that i would give. One of the main ones i would say is to be yourself because everyone is welcoming and helpful. In addition, you should show that you are willing to work hard and are dedicated to a goal/objective. Another crucial piece of advice i would give would be to show that you are willing to come back and work harder from any knock downs that you have.
