  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in KFC as a team leader. I manage shifts and make sure everything is done up to brand standards. Cash management is a part of my role and directing the team. With the apprenticeship my plan was to make my way up to Store Manager with the experience that I have learnt along the way.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my leadership skills as this was something that I had less experience in. I've learned about cash handling and the management reports such as labour costs. It's developed my confidence in working as a team and communicating clearly. I have many business project ideas which I can share with the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love working with my team and keeping team culture alive. Making sure to meet our daily targets as well as having fun on the shifts. I've learnt more about the industry and career pathways which are available, plus my Tutor has encouraged me to progress. I enjoyed the business project element as I was able to show my skills that I had learnt.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course helped me develop my practical skills into technical. I know more theory and operational. I get a lot of support from my Tutor and I feel that this has made a difference from the start of my beginning. I feel there could have been more contact at the start of the course as I was left on my own and I was motivated but found that I needed guidance.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager supports me in every way he can. Giving me lots of information relating to the business and how to improve. I also have my colleague who is 2nd Assistant Manager who is helping look over my business project as well Area Coach who has managed to find me particular reports located at Head Office.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The course helps me while I am practically at work, for example some situations that I would learn about would come up and I would know how to deal with them. I think that the programme could be more specific to KFC as I have completed in house training previously.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is a very good way to brush your skills and use them in your professional life as well as being qualified. I have learnt about other businesses within the industry and have an interest for food production which one of my preferred departments to work and I feel that this is an area that I am most comfortable with my skills.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Christmas party once a year - Usually a restaurant and for a few drinks. Other stores have to come and cover our store therefore it's difficult to arrange the time for social/ team-bonding activities. I would like to have more opportunities as I think this would increase the team morale.

  • 9a. Would you recommend KFC UK & I to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It gives people lots of opportunities to learn and grow. All the opportunities will help later on when you want to pursue more opportunities in leading. You can build friendships and trusted relationships with your staff members so you never feel like down about going to work. I feel lucky that I have a supportive Manager and Team.
