  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I am enhancing my knowledge and practical skills related to the role I have chosen to undertake throughout my apprenticeship. The role is to work on machinery such as manual and CNC milling machines and lathes to create items from provided drawings keeping within tolerance.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since I have been at BAE Systems I have learnt many new skills related to the role I will undertake. I have learnt how to use a large range of machinery such as manual lathes, CNC lathes, manual milling machines and CNC milling machines. It has also helped me to refine previous skills such as communication and teamwork.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my engineering apprenticeship at BAE Systems to a large extent. I enjoy learning a lot of new skills related to the machines that I am working on daily. Also the people make the experince a lot more enjoyable due to them being at similar skill levels when we started.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation and the structure of the apprenticeship has been impeccable. Everything has been laid out since day one so I am fully aware of the step by step process which will be my guidelines thought my time at BAE Systems. They make it clear how they will help me to progress.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a large amount of support from BAE Systems as they really car about their early careers learners as they believe so we are the future of BAE Systems. Anything that I need to know or any other type of additional support is listened to and provided without hesitation.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive an adequate amount of support from my training provider when it comes to achieving the specification needed when I am working towards my qualifications. Which is why BAE Systems decided they were the best training providers in the area to help me achieve my qualifications with ease l.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification helps me to perform better within my role while I am training to become a skilled employee at BAE Systems. I have become more confident with both my physical skills on the machinery and my social skills when it comes to working in a group.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many opportunities for apprentices to get involved in extra curricular activities such as many different team building exercises which are available throughout the apprenticeship program. This is a large part of the apprenticeship as BAE Systems wants to help and improve many different aspects of a person's life.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend as they are one of the leading company in the engineering apprenticeship field. They help to improve a person's skills and abilities which they focus upon throughout the apprenticeship program. They also help to give the apprentices a say in the company as they have new and fresh ideas.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Tips and advice I would give to a person who is applying to BAE Systems would be that they need to be prepared to act in a professional manner and show respect to other fellow colleagues. They should also not worry when it comes to the applying process as everyone is treated fairly.
