  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As store manager my role is to lead my team in order to drive sales vs LY and LFL, to deliver high customer service standards at all times and ensure h&s is maintained within the store to ensure a safe working environment for customers and my team. Daily tasks include standardising stock, merchandising displays and cleaning

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have had to take time out of my day to complete apprenticeship work leaving my management team to be more responsible in my absence-this has given them greater responsibility but also made me see that I can let go more and the shop will be absolutely fine without me

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • There have been times when I have enjoyed the course and times when I have felt like giving up. Sometimes the workload is too much for me to juggle alongside my day job, sometimes I have to do work on my day off or arrange visits to take place then also, in order to just get it done. Some units are relevant to my current role others I do wonder when I will ever use again

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The course is very well structured by the training company and my RT is very good at working to a schedule, my issue is keeping to the schedule around my day job as that takes priority over any additional work needed to be completed. You need to work quickly as it is easy to get caught behind with work

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Office are supportive in that they allow me the time to complete tasks around my role, they are also there to offer support and advice if needed. We hold frequent conference calls as a business for all learners to discuss any issues or ask any questions in a familiar environment

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My RT is always on hand when I need her, she keeps in frequent contact with me to check I am making good progress and to offer any assistance. She is always pushing me to get the best out of myself and will help me complete any work I have yet to finish in order to catch me back up with the course when I have fallen behind

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • To be honest I don't feel like the work I have been doing so far has had any impact on my current role, some has been proactive in that I have learned new things but not necessarily that id use again, also some work has seemed pointless and nothing related to my job.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I am aware of, we hold frequent area meetings which are a good opportunity for managers to get together in one place to discuss our stores with view to looking to make improvements to our figures/service. It is an opportunity to share best practise, reward and recognise and hear all about any new procedures/practises direct from HO so we're all on the same page

  • 9a. Would you recommend Office to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Although it is not overly successful for me so far, there are many people who learn differently who could benefit from a training scheme like this, you get 1 on 1 learning combined with independent learning, the topics may be of greater interest to you and you may well use the qualification to gain a better position in the future

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Office?
  • Think carefully if a commitment to independent learning is going to work for you, do you work better in a group or assisted? Do you want to broaden your horizons within your current job role and would you like to take on more workload. The app process is easy, I would have liked to have seen the programme first to see what id be learning
