Apprentice civil engineer Review

My role as an engineer is to assist site engineers. This involves various tasks such as In setting out and surveying, or doing quality and health and safety checks. No day is the same, and you are constantly learning from the most basic skills to advanced skills. This is what made me want to become an engineer.

I have learnt many skills in my 6 months in the business, some that are very basic and some that are very advanced. Not all skills are do with engineering but general skills that are useful in the working environment. This is why I strongly agree with apprenticeships as there is so much to learn.

I thoroughly enjoy the programme. Especially both elements of the apprenticeship, site placement and also being at college in Leeds. Whilst at college you learn the theory based site of engineering and then when on site you learn more hands on skills as you are treated like a proper engineer and not just as an apprentice.

I believe it is a structured very well with good breaks for college and then good amounts of time on site. College allows you to learn the theory and other aspects of engineering, and site placements allow you get a feel of what its like actually on the job and doing the project.

Our employers are always there for us and are happy to help us, weather we are in Leeds or on site in London. When on site they check up on us to make sure everything is okay and if there is anything that they can change to make our placements any better and when at College they regularly visit to see how we are getting on.

As in the previous questioned I mentioned when we are at college our employers regularly come down and visit us to check up on our progress and see if they can help in any way possible. In addition when on site when we have to do assignments we receive a lot of help from our tutor from the college and also from our employer.

I feel it gives me the confidence to when I go on site to be confident in my work and that I am fulfilling my role correctly. In addition whilst do9ing the qualification on site, I am still learning the theory aspect of engineering as well, giving me the best of both worlds.

There is always a good chance in professional networking as you work with some many different people all the time and also with sub contractors, so there i8s always networking happening even when you may not even realise it. There isn't any sports teams or anything but that is something I believe should be implemented as I am a sports fan and love a competition.

I believe with my experience so far with BAM it is a great company that offers so much to apprentices and is an opportunity that any young adults or teenagers who are eligible to apply should definitely do. There is always support there to help you and everyone is so friendly and treat you as a proper employee and not as a stereotypical apprentice role.

Be confident and be yourself when applying and at your interview. Talk about how you can add to the business and how you believe that its a great opportunity. In addition why you chose bam over other apprenticeships and why the role fits you as a person and how you'll benefit.
