  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I start my day by reviewing any changes to the system that came in overnight. As a project manager I then chair meetings with various clients and development teams to ensure the project schedule is on track and all risks are logged correctly. I also deal with any disputes and the financing of the project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My confidence has come on leaps and bounds and i am also much better now at compartmentalising and organising the jobs i need to complete. I have learnt how to pass on and display information clearly in emails and phone calls so the communication receiver can gain the correct meaning and follow the conversation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The QA training sessions are much longer than they need to be but, my learning at CGI and the extra training they give me on top of my apprenticeship is fantastic. I am excited to come to work as I am given responsibility and trust to carry out tasks independently.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is structured well however the QA Training Workshops are way too long. All the workshops could be condensed into a week an a half. Actually taking a week out of each month for training disrupts the work i am doing at work, meaning i am forever finding someone to cover me.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • CGI is fantastic at the support they give me. They encourage me to take on work independently and allow me to take extra training on top of my apprenticeship. The amount they have invested in me is brilliant and i could not ask for too much more. I would say it was hard at the beginning to get into a project role and find support in the first few weeks.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I get a skills coach to visit every 6 weeks and they are very helpful at guiding me through my apprenticeship and helping me understand what i should be doing next. The QA workshops are too long but they provide me with a lot of material; to read through and look at.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • They qualifications i gain during the apprenticeship allow me to come back to work and take on more work as i learn and get trained on more of the theory, The qualifications and training is relevant and helps me perform better in my role. Very good pock of qualifications for the PM Apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a sport and social club the runs different events and there is some volunteering time available. However, this volunteering leave has to be for something that will support CGI and is only 8 hours. There are fantastic networking opportunities and i can sign up to be an APM member giving me access to PM talks and networking events.

  • 9a. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They our supporting me, encouraging me, opening up opportunities and investing a lot of money in me. They work around my training week and there are plenty of people who want to help and support me in my progress and who take time out of there day to do so.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • Be yourself. CGI is a member-focused company and does not want robots. You control your career so be open about where you want to go and what your aspirations our. And the best tip for any application is if you fail on the online tests or during an application, apply again under a different email. You learn from every application so apply everywhere.
