  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Technical support such as logging tickets, reloading systems, managing backups & fault fixing and contacting any on call staff. I go to College one day per week for the course of the two year apprenticeship scheme. I work a rotational 12 hour shift pattern working 7 days and 7 nights per month.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a variety of skills, inside of college I have improved my knowledge vastly on networking, cyber security, linux, project management & IT support. In my working environment I have definitely learnt alot about working within a team. Along with this I would say the biggest skill I have improved on is the ability to stand up and present infront of an audience.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the work environment I work in, its very chilled out and my team are great company for getting the shift in, I am really enjoying my experience in the program so far my only complaint is there isn't any graduate programs in Northern Ireland with Fujitsu and I would have loved to move onto one next year!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program has been well established through out the years and is working well. I received a nice induction into my team, I receive as much support as I need when required and am allowed to set time aside in my working day to keep college work up to date.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • No complaints at all from my manager he will always go out of his way to help if somethings going on no matter how small it is! I have a great team who are easy to get along with. My college mentor is giving me support if required. HR have been efficient with me but I do not have many dealings with them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Inside of college my tutors all seem very knowledgeable and very willing to help if needed. We get access to all of our support documents from an online portal so we can get them from anywhere. I am enjoying the scheme although the teachings alittle slow for me so again I would love to see a degree option here next year like they get in England, Scotland & Wales!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • With the role I have in my company there is only so much relevance I am gaining from college as we are working for a platform that is strictly internal so you cannot learn about it outside! Although the addition IT skills are helping in general for fixing faults and learning quicker ways of doing things.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some extra curricular activities here but with my shift pattern they do not really suit me, in terms of social events we try to get the teams out a couple of times a year for food and an evening out, I have attended these and always feel very welcome!

  • 9a. Would you recommend Fujitsu to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Being part of such a huge company has its perks, where you begin isn't essentially where you are going to end up and that is something stressed here at Fujitsu. Its a company full of opportunity if you have to ambition to go out and grab it, I have also had alot of opportunities to travel with more coming up which I am grateful for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fujitsu?
  • The application process is very efficient after you have passed through the college assessments, within a week or so of passing the test I had had my interview and got offered the job. The interview was a panel so was a bit nerve wrecking but just be yourself and show you are keen!
