  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working as a general sales assistant, interacting with customers to provide great customer service, learning company processes whilst selling effectively to meet and achieve daily and weekly sales targets. My job mainly matched those who weren’t on an apprenticeship however I also got an hour off floor learning to complete work on training books.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt Superdrug specific skills that allow me to quickly and efficiently complete process that are a legal compliance, including how to monitor date coding, stock loss and health and safety guidelines. I have learnt new styles of customer service which have allowed me to grow more comfortable with interacting with customers on a more personal level.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed the programme to a high extent as I was supported completely by my assessor, she visited me once a month and was always on hand to offer support whenever I needed. In store I could have been offered more support with my training as well as more help on the shop floor.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well structured from the assessing point of view, the visits from the assessor are regular and you always know how much work must be done before the next visit, leaving you fully prepared for the end point assessment. The organisation in store could be better structured to allow more on the floor training.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Very little from the employer on the shop floor as very little is known to employers about the way in which the apprenticeships are run. A considerably larger amount of support is provided by the assessing team whom are always on hand to help and support you when you feel you are not being supported enough in store.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A massive amount of support was provided by my assessor who was always there to teach and support me. At my visits she helped me understand my workbook and at the workshop she encouraged me to share my knowledge and interact with the other apprentices. I could not have received more support from her.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification does help me perform better in my job role as I have a better understanding of the procedures needed to comply with legal guidelines as well as a greater understanding of how to perform the best customer service that I am able to, helping me to understand how better to build rapport with a customer.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I took part in an apprenticeship workshop meeting mid way through my apprenticeship. This was extremely informative and fun as about ten other apprentices also attended. This extra curricular activity allowed me to gain more knowledge on how to improve in my job role as well as how to prepare better for my end point assessment.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Superdrug to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The apprenticeship programme was extremely educational and allowed me to get a retail diploma with a distinction, a factor in which makes me more employable in the retail industry going forward from my apprenticeship. The only advice I would give would be to offer greater support after ending the programme as despite getting a distinction I am only being offered minimal hours in store.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Superdrug?
  • Focus on your work and ensure you stay on track regarding working on the training books as they are a great aid to ensure you are fully prepared for your end point assessment as well as being a large support for the practical learning you receive on the shop fooor.
