  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Working within the agricultural department. Preparing accounts job for review, making amendments post review ready for a meeting with the client. Various admin jobs from bound accounts to submissions and filing. I also feel as a trainee I still have as much to give to the team, in terms of even supporting new members of the team as I was the last one to go through becoming part of the agri team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I was completely new to accountancy therefore I have learnt a lot. Things I feel I have developed from this are my English skills in terms of producing letters to send out and also my use of quick maths on a day to day basis. Also in terms of professional skills and what it is like working within a 30 head team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy it. I feel it is a good start to training to become an accountant because it supports the level I am at with the jobs I undertake at work whilst challenging me enough to progress at a good rate. I enjoy being part of an agri team who are enthusiast about agriculture too.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel it is well organised as it provides some flexibility in terms of exam times and working it around busy periods at work and any holiday taken. Three is a loose structure in terms of when to take the exam however there's guidelines so that i am aware of what needs to be done in order for me to finish my apprenticeship is the desired time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A good amount of support from my trainer in terms of my supervisor at work who allows me to ask questions both about work and also my exam study. Through small questions which only take a couple minutesw, to sitting down with me to fully understand a complex matter. I also feel there is heavy support with making sure I am on top of my studies and my general well being.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A good amount of support in order to carry out practice exams and get them marked quickly with feedback in order for me to know my progress and although flexible, they can provide a structure to when I am taking my exams or targets to meet. They are also supportive of great results and make you feel you are able to achieve the pass you would like.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel it provides good background knowledge which strengthens what goes on at work. Learning about the background allows me to apply myself more in my work from understanding what journal 3entries need to be done, to the principles of accounting standards and basic and heavily used adjustments such as depreciation.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes we go for lunch meals and especially over Christmas we did both department celebrations and whole firms activities. Going forward we have team events planned including going to the races and farm visits. We also are involved with decisions in terms of what we would like to do, to therefore have our input.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel at my age it was a good move to make and they are providing value which I feel I am gaining both personally, academically and within my job role.
