1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

A data analysts role is to analyse data and provide data insights to stakeholders. I run and create reports for stakeholders for a variety of different reasons. I work within the HR Department to support my line manager looking after the HR system, and answer queries in regards to the system

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed existing skills that I have learnt at school and learnt new skills which I have learnt from my role which I can use in my apprenticeship. I have learnt new formulas which I can use on excel to speed up manual tasks and ensures I am able to run reports quickly and accurately.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my apprenticeship programme, although I have had some issues with my previous provider. I enjoy learning through different learning styles and doing an apprenticeship enables me to learn and also work at the same time, which will enable me to work on the job and also have time to study.

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

the programme is very structured, which is what I liked, I have set days/times to study for my exams and to complete my coursework, on the other hand I have time to complete my workload and I am able to have support provided to me if I feel that I need it.

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support and help from the learning and development team and also my line manager if I am unable to answer a specific query or need help understanding a term in my exams or coursework. my line manager helps to explain to me what terms mean and also how I am able to incorporate an example of this in my work.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I previously I did not receive much help or support from my previous provider, I have fed this back to my employer and I have now since changed providers and I am hopeful that this will now change and that I will receive more support from the training provider and my learning support coach.

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that my qualification (level 4 NVQ) benefits my current job role as a apprentice data analyst as I am learning how to provide data insights to stakeholders aswell as to find different ways to present data. I am currently learning Power BI and how this will create dashboards

8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

there are no clubs or extra curricular activities that I take part in within Costain. there are not many or at all any available to me. if there was any that were available to me I would take part in them or look into taking part into them, as this is something that would improve apprenticeship schemes socially.

9a. Would you recommend Costain to a friend?

Yes

9b. Why?

Costain is a great place to work and to develop your skills. there are some progression opportunities after apprenticeships and the employees are welcoming and friendly, I only work in head office but there are various sites all around the UK so it is great to see the business and other colleagues around the UK.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Costain?

I would encourage people to apply to join Costain and during the interview stage to be yourself and to explain the best features and skills that you have to the interviewer as they would be able to find other roles if unsuccessful that you could apply for, which would enable you to still be in the business.
