  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Staff/Assistant at EY in Audit. Day to day, my job consists of testing accounts, having conversations with my seniors and managers, and having conversations with the client. Keeping a good client relationship is very important. In my role I have to be very flexible, as some days we are required to stay later.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting my job in September 2018, I feel as if I have learned a lot more skills. For example, you have to be very proactive and independent at EY. You cant just sit there, and wait to be told what to do. Working at EY has improved my people skills, as everyday, I have to talk to and meet new people.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme. Coming out of school, the university life is really pushed on to you by your school. Luckily for me, I knew that I didn't want to go to uni. Instead, I got myself a job at EY, and haven't looked back since. It has really improved my people skills, which I use everyday. It also allows me to get a qualification at the end of the 4 years.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel as if, from my point of view, we could of been told a little bit better about the timing of exams. We attended college for 'Accounting' back in September. However, our exam isn't till May. I feel as if we could of have the week and 2 days at college around May time, rather than our first week.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Personally, I feel as if I receive a lot of support from EY. There are lots of people who were in the same situation as I am now, therefore they know what its like, and try their best to help. Also, my counsellor is very helpful, and constantly seeing if I need any help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I haven't really had any contact with my training provider as of yet. However, I feel as if this is because I haven't sat any exams yet, and that, after I do actually sit my first one, my contact with my training provider will actually increase. I will sit my first one in May of 2019.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Although I haven't sat an exam yet, I feel as if the exams will actually help me be better in my role. For example, there are lots of testing which include debits, credits. These are related to the Accounting exam which I will sit in May. By having a better understanding of these, I will be more efficient.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I would like to be involved in the sports team, however I have a knee injury which requires surgery, and this is what is stopping me. There are lots of opportunities at EY to network with other people. There is the newsletter which is sent out every week, which highlights peoples performance.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • EY is a company which puts a lot of focus on its employees. It lets us have freedom, whilst at the same time allows us to progress at our roles. It teaches you how to improve some skills you may already have, as well as develop new ones you never thought you had.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Be ready for a challenge, but also be excited for one. The everyday life at EY is always changing, and there are no 2 days the same- which I think is a very good thing. You will be expected to work hard for long periods of time, however, this will come with a lot of benefits.
