  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Most definitely, coming from a sheltered school life to a independent career where you stand alone is great for learning new skills, especially social skills and confidence. It also has been majorly beneficial for improving my work ethic, work capacity and providing more diligence and care for the work that I produce. It has taught to me to be proud of the work that I do.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program itself is fairly moderate, the tasks you embark on can often be simple, boring and desire a large amount of will power to get through them. However the program is a fantastic means to an end, it offers future possibilities that are extremely exciting and endless and for this it makes it worth doing. It is also fantastic for introducing someone into such a career, it is easy for people to overestimate their capabilities in such an environment as they simply cannot be aware of what they do not know - so although the pace feels slow at times this is for the benefit of those on the program even if they do not quite see it that way.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well. The program is now in its sixth intake and with this is improving every year. They have the exams down to a tee, providing sufficient study time and tuition support. They also provide extra learning sessions on work skills such as ''handling difficult conversations'' which all pitch in to help provide a well rounded education. There is also the comfort of knowing our program roles into a career and that we are not just there for the education, we are actually building a career.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • All of the support required. As mentioned previously they provide study days once a week to work on your exams, as well as tuition sessions with specialist from Fitch Learning so that we can not just pass an exam, but understand it too. Aside from educational support the company also offers a lot of social support, no problem is too large for them to handle.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Plenty of support. I have had continual contact and support from the growth company who have been fantastic. I am currently nearing the end of my apprenticeship and focusing on the last of my coursework and I can most definitely feel the focus that the growth company has put on my work to help coach me through qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Although the qualification can often feel like I am trying to humor an examiner as opposed to be relevant to my role, I can appreciate that the acquisition of knowledge and skills from the qualification is a gradual process and that although I will not realize a stark change in my capabilities, the qualification has most definitely helped me perform better in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • So many that there is too many to attend them all. We have many social 'networks' covering topics such as diversity, disabilities, veterans, LGBT etc.. as well as providing us with services such as the gym, client events which we can attend. The list is endless. I personally have found myself on the board of a network for apprentices, which is brilliant for encouraging pride in being an apprentice and helping make positive changes for apprentices at UBS.

  • 9a. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because I believe that this is an opportunity whereby an apprentice for once rivals a degree. It is a phenomenal opportunity with endless capabilities. There truly is a role for every person in this bank and with this they will be provided with whatever support it is that they might need along the way.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • Be honest, be confident and be humble. Show the employer why you would like to work here, let them see your enthusiasm to learn and interest in the role that you are applying to. With this you must always remain humble, never act like you deserve the role, nor be over bearing.
