  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role covers basic admin tasks in the office. This can involve completing due diligence, processing documents, liaising with clients, sending post, etc. Another important part of my role is learning as much as I can about the financial services industry, the company that I work for and the tasks that need to be done to provide a good service to clients.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • There are many opportunities to learn new skills and develop existing ones. Training is provided as part of the apprenticeship on the content of the exams as well as skills development, for example how to use Microsoft Excel or presentation techniques for public speaking. A lot is also learned from my day to day role due to the admin tasks that I complete needing to be managed in a time efficient manor. Managing workload is a new skill to me having come into full time work straight from A-Levels.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying the apprenticeship programme. I have had the opportunity to meet a lot of people with various responsibilities from all over the business. The training provided has been valued and interesting whether it's for my exams or to supplement my day to day role. Looking to the future I feel I have many promising options.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation of the programme is good from the basic induction sessions through to the regular training for exams. I have time to study towards the qualification whilst also being able to complete my day to day role. To help monitor my development I also have frequent progress review meetings.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have been informed of places to go and the contacts available should I ever need support, however I am given a lot of support in addition to this anyway. I have frequent check ups with my line manager and the people coordinating the apprenticeship programme are also friendly and there when you need them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have two training providers, FitchLearning which provides training mainly for the exams and The Growth Company which provides training for the coursework which focusses on skills development. I have monthly meetings with my skills coach at The Growth Company where we review everything from what I have learnt and my progress through to how I am feeling in my role.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification allows me to gain an understanding of the broader aspects of the financial services industry. I learn about the fundamentals that make up the industry so that I know more about the tasks that are in front of me in my day to day job. It also works the other way round in that my day to day role helps me to complete my qualification in some instances.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I work in a regional office which is tiny in comparison to the office in London so it is more restricted when it comes to extra-curricular activities. However, we will all do stuff together outside of the office from time to time. When I'm in London I usually have the opportunity to catch up with the other apprentices and attend business related events after work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Since joining UBS I feel my opportunities for the future have increased significantly and I am very clear of the career I am able to make for myself. My network has expanded a lot which is something I didn't think about going into the apprenticeship but I now realise is very important.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • UBS wants to hire people with a wide range of skills who are keen to develop professionally. I believe an applicant should be able to give examples of instances where they have shown the skills that UBS whether or not this has occurred in a working environment. Being enthusiastic will also make a good application.
