  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I organise payments from the bank accounts of the project which I work on, I control the legal workstream, I monitor the bank accounts and prepare forecasts of costs for each of the entities and control the payments to ensure the companies will go into solvent/insolvent liquidation and I also make income vouchers

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My excel skills have very much improved. When I first began my skills were very low but my team support me a lot and I can go to them for help whenever I need it. My communication skills have improved as I now host a fortnightly meeting with the finance department and I contribute

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy it to some extent - I feel that it is an expectation for us to work more than our 9 to 5 just because everyone else does and sometimes this can be quite draining. I enjoy the team that I work with as we all get on really well.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We don't receive a lot of internal training because people tend to be very busy. Our study is fairly easy to follow as long as you make time for yourself outside of work. Our counsellors are very helpful at monitoring our progress and providing support where it is needed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Our managers will give us feedback on our progress which I find extremely helpful. I have a mentor who supports me and I see every quarter for an update although if I feel I need meetings more frequently they are always willing to lend a hand and give some advice

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I havent had much communication from our training provider since we attended college (6 months ago) although we were sent an email for us to update our workbooks as the syllabus changed. The teachers are there when we need them but as of yet I havent needed to reach out nor have they sent us many emails about revision.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Without my qualification i would not be able to do my role. I have only studied one module so far and I havent had to use any of the knowledge in my work as many of the techniques used are not necessary in my service line as we do advisory

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We havent been to any but I know of some. They havent encouraged school leavers to get involved but I dont think I would anyway as I have a lack of time due to work and project related commitments and so I am expected to be in the office often

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I find that my role is interesting and others may be interested, I enjoy my project and I think other people would enjoy the roles that we offer. There is something new every day and it is good for people who dont like to do mundane jobs and want to try something different

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Stay positive and be confident, be ready for new challenges and be prepared to be entering the work environment as it is very different to being in school. I had to become very mature very quickly and it cant be difficult to try and pick up new skills so quickly
