  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is a trainee associate in assurance. On a day to day basis I am usually out on client sites interacting with the client. During Year end we have tight deadlines to report. My usual tasks start from performing tests on basic accounts from cash to trade debtors and inventory.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have only worked here for 6 months and the skills that I have developed have grown significantly. Even within the last 2 months I have grown as an individual and can also perform tasks more confidently. At the beginning of my job I went to college so I now have a basic understanding of accounting which I have never had before.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy this programme to a great extent. The office I work in is so friendly. I have even joined with 4 other peers and the bond we have created is amazing. Also this company has so many opportunities for me within the future that I cannot wait to start.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Id say that my programme is organised due to the fact that I already know my college dates and exam dates. I am also aware of that within my 5 years I will eventually progress to a senior role. I also gain feedback every quarter which is a structured feedback system created by EY.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support. We have been assigned a buddy when I first joined which I messaged before I started and still now for support. I also have a counsellor and we meet to discuss my feedback and any other issues. The feedback we are given also helps me to understand areas where I should and can improve.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Kaplan have provided us with online tests and revision. We also have the opportunity for webinars now and again. However its a shame that we don't get much human contact due to the fact that ive never done accounting before it was very hard for me being thrown in the deep end.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification is 100% needed to perform better within my role. It helps understand how and why we do what we do. It also helps you develop through the programme with the more exams that you sit. Without the qualification I do not think I would be able to perform the role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many social events that we have within my work. We have month end drinks, Christmas party. We even had socials before I joined so I could meet people such as meals and escape rooms. Our office also have professional networking events with other offices and training events with the whole nation which is a good way to meet new people in new offices.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend EY to a friend as I believe in the future the skills that I will have developed will enhance my future career. Also the amazing opportunities to change the better working world are outstanding. I would also recommend it for those who do not want to go to university.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • To those applying for EY. I would consider whether you like to travel a lot- this is a great part of the EY culture. I would also advice them to consider the future changes within the industry and just to be yourself throughout the applicate. I would also tell them to look into the 2020+ vision and see whether this is something they would like to be part of.
