  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • So on a day to day basis I would stat by contacting my senior to see what is on our list for the coming days/weeks. Once I have this I will get to work on those things - this could include expense testing, walkthroughs, journal entry testing, contract testing and many more.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved on my client facing skills and professionalism. As well as this, I have become much more effective using excel. Construction of emails, adapting depending on who they're being sent to is also something that has improved. I have also learnt a lot more about accounting processes.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is tough in terms of hours during busy season, however, there are a lot of people of a similar age working In the office. As well as this there are regular socials and opportunities to socialise and meet new people, such as sports teams and sector organised events.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There are a few things I would potentially adjust regarding the placing of college/exams. For example we do a week of college when we first start our apprenticeship then have to wait 6 months before we are examined on that content. Also our first exam comes directly after busy season where time to revise Is minimal

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a lot of support from our employer. You are able to be flexible in terms of working from home/re arranging hours when you need to. Also they put a big emphasis on passing exams so if you need to lower your hours on an engagement to make time for this it is allowed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have been given practice materials to test ourselves independently. We are also able to message our tutors whenever with any questions regarding the syllabus. On top of this they have organised various drop in sessions in which we can get extra tips for our exams and extra tutoring if we require it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Well the very first piece of training relates to basic accounting which is the basis of our day to day job. It is helpful to have this basic knowledge before coming into work as it allows you to do a lot more and stops you from wasting the time of seniors.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of extra - curricular activities to get involved in. There are sports teams at various levels from representing EY to representing your service line. There are also plenty of socials throughout the year to get involved in which gives ample opportunity to meet new people as well as getting to know your teams better

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think EY is a great place to start your career and get to know how it works in a big business environment. As well as this, the support which we receive helps to ease us into the working life and it is not such a shock to the system.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • I'd say the biggest tip is to be yourself when applying. EY aren't looking for a particular mould and they encourage inclusivity and the ability to express your ideas no matter what level you are. In addition to this I'd say just try and relax as much as possible as the people who work here are lovely.
