  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis, I help support and advise companies that are in distress. This involves formal insolvency, international business reviews, pensions advice and we work globally to restructure companies. Day to day i complete a lot of admin work, such as responding to mailboxes in an administration, or completing payments for suppliers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed communication and leadership skills, particularly team and personal leadership as in the role, you have to work with many team members and balance your work and personal life well. Communication is important as a lot of our work is fast-paced, so we need to be able to communicate effectively to be productive and efficient.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy coming into work every day - i have met so many wonderful people at EY, and it has allowed me to develop friendships that i know will be there for life. The mentors, coaching and senior members of the team are extremely supportive and make life at EY very positive.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured. It is 4-5 years long, and you do 15 exams which are spaced out over the 5 years, attending college at Kaplan and sometimes doing home study. There is a clear path and end goal, which is achieving the level 7 qualification for apprenticeships and the ICAEW chartered accountant qualification.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a lot of support, because we have a counsellor who looks after our professional needs. We have a career mentor who is there to aid in your development in the team, and we have an apprenticeships mentor who is there to answer any questions you may have which is very helpful.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive quite a bit of support, the staff at Kaplan are good and lay everything out clearly, they give us their email address just in case we have questions when we study at home which is great. there are lots of resources online including videos and mock tests which we can do.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is motivational as if we fail three times then we are fired (!) so there is definitely motivation to perform well in the role and to pass the exams. if you stay on top of your work then you can do well in the exams. the technical knowledge also aids in day to day role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have had quite a few professional networking events such as 5 a side football, Escape Rooms, after work drinks. There is a Women's network which organises Thursday fizz nights and breakfast events. I do not participate in any sports teams but sure there are some! Our workplace is very social.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because it's the best thing I've ever done, and i work with the best people! I really enjoy coming into work, the atmosphere is so supportive and friendly. We work hard but enjoy our time at work too, and i think others would enjoy their experience too. There are a lot of benefits such as a bonus too.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Be yourself, and say yes to every opportunity. Make friends and colleagues and networks because you never know when you might need them. We have a very relaxed atmosphere so you don't need certain grades to get in, so just be able to have a conversation. Don't be nervous! we've all been there.
