  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a customer service engineer my day to day work will change depending on what tasks I am given to complete. My day starts with logging onto the system and picking up tasks for the day, these tasks can be provides and repairs. My day can involve a lot of physical activities including climbing, walking, lifting to be able to complete these task to a decent level.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned loads of new skills and still developing new ones. I have come into this line of work with a open mind to learning a new skill and really enjoying it. I have learned a lot about the network and how it works and willing to learn as much as possible about my job to become a better engineer.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have really enjoyed my learning programme and brushed up on some skills that I used to use so it has helped me refresh on a lot of things. It has also helped me understand my job more by helping me write about what im doing and the processes needed to do my job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very organised and structured, I had a plan when it come to my programme to get the best out of my work and display that into a portfolio to show how I am doing in my job and how much I understand. I kept my work flow easy and manageable so it was easier to work on and complete.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support form my employer at every level. If I have ever needed more training or advice on anything they have always pointed me in the right direction to find me help or help me do my job well. I have had constant support from my employer since I started.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received a lot of support and mentoring during my qualification, where I have needed help my training provider has always help with advice and direction of where my work needs to be going. I have emailed my training provider many times for help and he has got back to me as soon as he could to provide help.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification will help me perform better in my role because going through your job through research you discover more about the processes and the procedure of my job. It helps me perform better as an engineer as my knowledge of the job has improved by doing a NVQ.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are out of hour activities available within my workplace i.e team sports out of work time. our team personally do meals out and regularly have meet ups out of work to socialise and get to know your team better which in return helps better team morale and helps people socially out of work .

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Openreach to a friend because I believe its a brilliant job and a brilliant company to work for as it has been structured and friendly since the day I started and the training is fantastic and help isn't that far away. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn and progress in a workplace as Openreach has many doors that can help you develop at work.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would advise anyone who is applying to work for Openreach to be dedicated, do your research into the company and work hard during the interview process and training if you are lucky enough to get through. Its a fantastic place to work so all the effort and time will be repaid back to you in benefits and a structured workplace.
