  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work within the investment team of the Wealth Management division. Day to day I monitor our client portfolio's, place trades, manage cash and ensure all of our client portfolio's look at they should. This includes buying/selling assets both at the client team request and at my own discretion to ensure the account is within investment guidelines.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Before I started at Rothschild I had no idea what portfolio's or different asset classes even were. I have learned so much that I can't believe I ever didn't have the technical knowledge I do now! One skill set in particular I have developed are my speaking skills. I was asked to speak at an event run fro young people and also volunteered to speak as our semi annual business review (Town Hall). I got such great feedback that it has really built my confidence.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I think my programme is excellent and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far. I'm privileged in that my job role is permanent and standalone from my apprenticeship programme and yet my team have supported me thoroughly. I completed my IOC exams last year which I found really interesting and relevant.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is great. We focused on our exams initially, having courses at Fitch Learning to cover content and being given time off each week to study. We also have regular skills courses (such as time management, how to write well at work) and a lot of support to complete our portfolio of evidence.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer tries in every way possible to support me. When studying for exams I had Friday afternoons off to study and 2 days study leave before each actual exam. My manager has been very open with me and always said if I need any extra time off or if they can help me in any way with my exams and portfolio of evidence then all I had to do was say! Learning and development took care to ensure I attended any relevant courses and training which may help me as well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider are great at going the extra mile to support you. I regularly meet with my skills coach now I'm working towards finishing my qualification all together and whilst completing my exams she was excellent at always checking in with how I'm doing and assisting me. The tutoring company were also great and there was a tutor on hand when needed to answer any questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is relevant and the exams helped me to grasp technical concepts much better. The skills side is a bit broad and hasn't directly helped me to perform well in my role but I believe this is down to the spec created by the awarding body as opposed to the qualification itself.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes! There are lots of social events held and networking events, such as the recently re-launched womens network. We always have an after party after our semi-annual town hall which is really fun and gives us a chance to network as well. This has previously been minigolf, pingpong tournaments, wine tasting and an evening of spy games.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Rothschild & Co to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The company are great and genuinely care for my development. I have previously recommended friends to apply as I believe its a fantastic opportunity. There is an excellent workplace culture and I get on with everyone I work with really well. I have progressed in ways I never could have imagined.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Rothschild & Co?
  • Throw all of your assumptions out of the window! Before joining I assumed I would be walking into a very tense and quiet environment where everyone is always serious. I also assumed I would struggle to grasp the concepts as I has no previous economics/mathematical exposure (apart from GCSE maths) but I've learned so much so quick and everyone is so lovely!
