  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • provision of fibre optics to customer premises, businesses, new site buildings. faulting issues within the network, through the uses of high tech networking equipment's. For example an optical time domain reflector, light meters, frequency tonners, live fibre detectors, as well as computer programme such as geohub, Phoenix and so on.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, initially I knew nothing about fibre optics before joining the company. Through effective and efficient training I was able to rapidly develop new skills and understanding. for example how to splice, understanding how the network works. Using an otdr for testing as well as faulting, and general road safety.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy very much, as it was very informative. The coach was very helpful in helping use understand when we needed help and understanding. As we worked in group I was very helpful as we could all help each other as well if another person needed some aid and assistance.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was very organised we had an allocated amount of study session per month. which was compulsory to attend. The invite were sent through emails which we would have to accept notifiying the organiser of our attendance. In the programme help and support was given where needed and required, which was very useful

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • help and support was received when required, without any hesitation or issues which was very encouraging. The general attitude was always very positive and welcoming in as aspects, where it be in relation to the work or just the general working environment amongst the apprentices and trainer. Our manager was all very helpful when it came to issues in regarding the programme

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As I felt I was quite knowledgeable in regards to the work which has to be carried out within the programme, I personally didn't feel the need to request for help in comparison to other within the programme. however when I did required some form of help or understand it was definitely given.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • the qualification has defiantly helped me to perform better in my role, as deeper understanding of the role was elaborated through out the course of the programme helping me to perform effectively as well as efficiently. This understand not only benefited within my perform but also within the level of service provided to customers

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a competition call the challenge cup, where engineers develop and propose new ideas and designs to a board of designers over a period over time during the development stages. at the end the panels reviews and judges which idea is the most effective and innovative, to then win the competition.

  • Yes

  • have an open mind and be willing to learn, that will take you very far within the organisation. No experience is needed so don't be afraid to apply even ifs completely different from the field your coming from. full training, equipment and help is provided throughout your career here.
