  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on assisting the contract management for the engineering, cleaning, fabric contracts as well as assisting in the management of four tenants (three commercial, one retail). I assist by producing SLA and KPI reports as well as leading regular update meetings. in addition to this I work on various small projects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my skills and knowledge around contract management as well as developing skills and knowledge around engineering principles and practices. through my apprenticeship course I have developed an overall understanding of facilities management and the many different aspects that it entails. management skills have been developed through working with a team at a remote site.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • thoroughly enjoyable programme. allows me to experience a vast variety of different areas that are helping me prepare for a career within this industry. my college (Westminster Kingsway college) have been excellent as have Nomura in ensuring that I am well prepared for life after the apprenticeship and that I succeed on this apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • structure has been excellent. very clearly laid out and well organised. sessions are organised well in advance as well as the sessions. learning materials are always provided and the content is at the correct level to keep me engaged and enthused with the subject. good use of discussions alongside the power points help me to learn the course

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • lots of support. from ensuring that im getting a good variety of areas to work in as well as assisting with the coursework and helping prepare for my end point assessments. in addition a monthly meeting between the apprentice cohort is very useful not only in networking with other people in the same position but also to see what other areas people are doing apprenticeships in.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • lots of support from westiminster Kingsway college. my tutor Jerome clearly explains what we need to do for the assignments as well as getting them marked within a quick turn around. the college is able to host sessions when rooms are not available at Nomura which is also an added bonus.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Being new to the industry this qualification has, in conjunction with my job role, allowed me to develop and understanding of whats included with the various different areas of facilities management. its also been helpful for areas that I might not get a lot of experience in such as procurement.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes lots to get involved in. regular social activities and sports clubs as well as events for charity. the on site gym allows you to get to know people you wouldn't necessarily interact with through classes. a monthly meeting between apprentices also helps to keep everyone interacted and is regularly assisted by social activities for the group.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Nomura to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • a fun and enjoyable place to work that has been very supportive of me throughout the process. other bonuses for working at Nomura would be the location of the building, lots of transport links nearby and the pay. in addition to this the opportunity to visit other sites has been very beneficial


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nomura?
  • research the business and be honest about you're ability and intentions going forward. dress in a professional manner and be prepared to put the work in through the application process. there can be lots of checks before getting the job due to it being a financial institution so ensure you have everything in order before accepting.
