  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to learn the ins and outs of mechanics on trucks and repair or replace where needed. I also need to locate any defects on trucks. As well as working on trucks I clean up the workshop as well so it does not become a mess, which is good for me and my colleges. I also help other technicians when needed which provides good learning for me.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of different things since the start of my apprenticeship such as what parts there is on a heavy vehicle and what the part is for and where it is located. I have also learnt the theory behind things as well. I go to college to do the theory and it gives me a good insight on how things work and what parts do.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my apprenticeship. I like coming into work and ready to learn new things I didn't know each day from doing services and doing big jobs. The apprenticeship is well laid out and is very good for understanding. People in the workplace are also friendly and help you out.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My training provider helps a lot with this as I learn a lot of theory which expands my knowledge on working, which then helps me in the workplace because it allows me to understand more. My training provider also helps with practical as every time I go to college I have to do practical tasks in the college workshop.

  • there are some activities to do through the year, but its more of a personal decision but people from work go to events together such as truck shows. These are really good and very interesting. It is also good socially as I am with others. Doing these things are usually long distance also.
