  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Monday's we are at university 9am - 6pm. We cover one module with a lecture and practical in the morning, and then another with a lecture and tutorial in the afternoon. Tuesday - Friday we are then at work. When on a project you'll go to the client site. The day starts with a daily stand up where the team all comes together for a 15 minute meeting. Then I'd check my emails and decide what my priorities for the day are. Sometimes I'll get support from the team immediately next to me, and other times I will have video calls with team members in other cities and countries. On my last project I was doing testing, so would run daily tests and triage the results. I would generate a daily report to send to my manager. I also got involved with longer term work where I would do a little and often across the week.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes! I had no skills in this industry other than the basic use of office and some database work. Now I am able to write basic code in Java, JavaScript, SQL, C# and use mark up languages. I don't use them on a daily basis, but I've also learned how to use several tools as well.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I'm really enjoying my programme. The university is very supportive and it's a great pace for someone who hasn't studied this subject before. Work supports you well with your studies. It can be a bit difficult to find a project, but there are plenty of people in place to help and support you with this.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of studying 1 day a week and working 4 works really well. Especially with going into university(rather than distance learning) it means that when you are studying that has your full attention, and you are able to focus and turn your work emails off. Then the rest of the week is dedicated to work and isn't interrupted with university work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There's a lot of support and help in place if you ask for it. We are put in touch with an older apprentice who we can go to with small queries, then we have an ambassador, and career counsellor to help navigate through the company. We also get a few extra study leave days on top of our annual leave. There is a lot of support for mental and physical health issues as well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot of support, the lecturers are always willing to help and make time for us when we need extra help. The tutorials and lab sessions are also a good time as we are broken into smaller groups and get more individual support. We also have block modules which are just for apprentices, they are intensive but it's nice for it to be in smaller groups.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It gives me a great well rounded foundation and knowledge to take to work. Each week I'll learn something new at university, it doesn't always link directly to the project i'm doing at the time but it definitely helps and I know it will be useful on the next project or two.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of chances for extra-curricular activities. Both with the company and with the university. Both offer sports, cultural societies, and hobbies. Accenture also has several different types of networking events that we are welcome and encouraged to attend. However balancing studies, work, and home life means there is definitely a limit on how much you can get involved with at once.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Accenture to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I've enjoyed the experience so far and it's a great community to be a part of. There's such a diverse, and engaged culture within Accenture. Everyone who I have met, virtually or in person, is so willing to help and give you some of their time. It's also very visible how much Accenture values its employees.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Accenture?
  • I think be sure that it's the industry that you want to go into, as if you're not passionate about it and willing to put in extra time, with events, helping others etc then it's probably not the right place. I think let your personality show through, Accenture is very people centric.
