  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my job, I am tasked with all the small tasks of a project which don't necessarily need me to be qualified to do. things like filing and printing. I also do drawings on CAD software which helps me use different software to vary my skills and enhance my experience

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My communication skills have been greatly increased, as I now am responsible for myself and if I need help or to clarify something, then I need to go out and find the answer either from someone else, or research it. My computer skills have also greatly increased due to daily use.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would mostly say that I enjoy my program. college is good and the work I do in the office isn't too hard or too easy. often each day is different, but it can easily become repetitive if I am working on a project which has the same task needing done day in day out.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the program could have been set up differently at the start, as the college course I have been enrolled on, is too easy for me, and I feel had a proper assessment taken place at the start of the apprenticeship, I could have been enrolled on a course which challenges me more.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would have to say that my employer do offer good support, and can offer help with college work with reference to using past projects to support work I have to do. they also help with SVQ things and offer to set time aside to work on things which are not project related

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • my training provider don't do much from what I see. we have meetings every few months, but apart from these, I'm not sure what role they take in my apprenticeship. I presume they will have more of an internal role regards to keeping everything running smoothly between college and work

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • nothing that I have done in the office really has a link with what I am learning in college, but I think this is because I cannot put what I learn at college into practice at work until I am professionally recognised and get my EngTech. This may not be the case though

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, almost every day there are emails going round the office asking if we want to try new sports, or organise gamers of 5 a sides, or even to go out for drinks on pay day. I don't take part in all these events, but do try to whenever possible.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a good company to work for, offer good support and working conditions and work times are good as you can almost choose when you work, as long as you do your hours for the week. Holidays are also very flexible and can be taken at short notice, as little as two weeks

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?
  • Don't lie in your application, do some research about the company before your interview. when you turn up to any event, such as tests, before you are hired, always dress formal to leave a good impression, and make sure you are well spoken, be polite and as always, be yourself
