I am working with 2 external contractors and managing 3 apprentices. My daily work are tasks that I am assigned during our planning call in the morning every day. These tasks involve coding and programming. I had a technical background which made it easy, but still had to look at the syntaxes of the new languages used in the project.
Yes, I have learnt a lot of new things such as Python as it was required for the project I was going to be on (Automation). Since I knew the basic programming languages it made it easier to develop my existing skills even further. Furthermore, you are learning something new every day from your co-workers and applying that to your work as well.
I am really proud I joined this 3 year programme with Accenture as there are so many benefits that with being an Apprentice. Being invited to so many events and speaking to students and teachers about the degree apprenticeships on offer with Accenture is great. Also, meeting new people every day, growing your network really helps in the future.
The programme is structured really well, I do not have any complaints as we have university every Monday and cover all the work during that day. It is manageable, it doesn't get stressful, and even if it does, there are so many people you can speak to including your career counsellor. The working hours are great as well, the only thing that could be better are the hours at university every Monday. It is from 9-6 which can be quite tiring.
There is a lot of support at Accenture and the company itself is all about PEOPLE. There is always somebody around to help, teach, and listen most importantly. There is a career counsellor that is assigned to everybody and he/she are always there for you and I have monthly meetings with him so we can catch up on all the work, which helps a lot.
We had a two-week immense training when we joined and it was an amazing experience as we weren't just learning, but applying at the same time by creating websites. I haven't had any problems with my work at university yet, but whenever we speak, he is always there to support and help.
Not everything we learn at university is necessarily applied at work, as the projects are changed and they require different skills. However, the current modules that I am, learning are applied to my role, such as JAVA, as I am using it with my team at Accenture to deliver a project to the clients. Theory is covered at university and it does help a lot for that basic knowledge that is needed.
Yeah, Accenture has a lot of extra curricular activities. I am involved in the Netball club and wine tasting club. There are lots of events that happen every week such as Cyber Security, Blockchain events. This is a great opportunity to network and grow your experience with people. At university, I am involved in the basketball team as well.
Yes
It is one the amazing things to do, as you are getting a full bachelors degree, salary and most importantly experience with one the top companies in the world. You are not missing out on anything, whether it is university experience or working in a professional environment. This is the proudest achievement!
I would say be ready and confident. Keep noting down everything you do as it all counts, even working in a small team, presentations as they do matter when you are interviewed. Have that passion for technology and demonstrate it during your interview, let them know why you are an important asset and how you stand out from the others.
