Degree Apprentice - Software Review

I work in a managerial role so I need to attend meetings and sometimes head daily Skype calls to catch up with the rest of the team to make sure all work is on progress. I also have other side projects I've been allowed to work on which are more development related. This allows me to develop in more than one area at once, and also means I never have nothing to do.

I've definitely developed my interpersonal skills. These are very important in the role I am currently in and being outside of my comfort zone has definitely helped me in a positive way. I've also been able to develop my hands on skills in the development area as well which has been super helpful.

I'm currently in my first "rotation" and have many more to come, so I will experience the wider business. So far i'm really enjoying this experience and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an apprenticeship in the future. Since you're introduced with other apprentices across BT it makes the whole thing a lot more relaxing since you know other people are also in the same boat as you.

The whole process is very well organised. Since I've joined I have always known what I needed to do, and I've always known what is expected of me. Each programme is tailored to the individual as you get to choose what area to work in which allows me to develop in the area I would like to work in.

I receive a lot of support. I have multiple contacts within the company who I can message/email and get an instant response from. They will answer any question I have without hesitation and explain things I do not understand in a way i can easily interpret. Don't think they can do much more in terms of support

Like my employer, I have multiple people I can contact so any question goes. I get given plenty of time to do my assignments and I'm given extra resources if needed which makes the whole thing a lot less stressful and straightforward. The training provider also is well informed of the apprenticeship so caters around this to make the most of my time.

The training provided falls hand in hand with the apprenticeship course. The training matches the course so the stuff you do in the training helps you out in the job as well. So it's very relate-able in my day=to-day activities so the course definitely improves my efficiency day to day.

There's a lot available to get on with other than the main job, there are multiple sports teams, tournaments and competitions. There is also a lot of networking events like team meals, team building activities. There are a lot of things in place at BT and the surrounding area to maker your experience more enjoyable.

Yes

At every stage of the apprenticeship your are guided and trained to a high level. There is also a lot of manoeuvrability within the company, so if you're not happy working in a certain area, you can move to another and try that out. There is a lot of flexibility since BT is such a large company.

Be yourself. From my experience BT are looking for the ideal person, and are more interested in you than your grades. The application process can take a while so use that time to work on interpersonal skills and have practice interviews to help you get to a high level before your BT interview.
