  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm currently in a business partnering role looking at 2 different business units. I'm running the BAU processes such as pension, payroll, child care vouchers and also looking at how we can improve each unit through the scores on the biannual survey. Currently doing lots of travelling which I enjoy.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt lots of new skills in my time within the company so far. I've looked at different software types and now developing skills on functional subjects such as IT, English and Maths. I'm looking at writing business cases, submitting payroll and pensions for people in the business and have a core role in making this happen.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme involves rotations within the company. I had 2 specialist roles before coming into a generalist role which I didn't enjoy as much as my current rotation. The people in the team have always been supportive and helpful in developing me and helping me grow and the culture if definitely somewhere I'd want in every business

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation has not always been great. Our cohort have had a lot of issues with our study provider and have had a lot of meetings with them to resolve the issues. We've had tutors not turn up to webinars and the study planner for our webinars changed on multiple occasions. Feedback for drafts have also not always been up to standard. However, a lot of these issues have been resolved and the structure is improving

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The HR team is very supportive and happy to help where they can. My manager in all my rotations has always been supportive in providing me with the time to complete my essay. They are flexible in terms of allowing me to switch study days if I need to in order to balance work and study

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider has been helpful recently when giving feedback on draft essays to help us with our qualification. We have had issues in the past where we haven't had the support as originally laid out to us, however, as mentioned previously, this has now been fixed and we are happy with the support.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification has been helpful for me in my current rotation as I had to dig in a lot to the OD of the organisation for my last assignment. It's a crucial time for us as we are going through major OD in the business so it gave me time to understand what's been going on and apply this in my job

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a netball team that they were advertising for when we first joined in 2017 - haven't heard much from this since though. There are lots of social events that we organise ourselves but not many ran by the apprentice team when compared to the grads. Maybe have had 1 event since joining

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The culture at BT is at the standard where everyone is happy to help when you need support. You never feel as though you are burdening anyone or troubling them when asking for help. You may not be in the same office as your team but everyone is always contactable

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I'd say that you should make the most of the opportunity and embrace all areas you are thrown in to. It may not be a topic or area you enjoy but you will learn a lot of skills and behaviours from the work you do and the people in that area
