  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my day, I start by preparing breakfast items both hot and cold, clean down surfaces and eating areas for residents. Next, I prepare lunch items and prep vegetables for the soup at dinner time. I also start to prep dinner cold option which is sandwiches. Finally, I help prepare dinner and make dessert or that night.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to efficiently and thoroughly clean areas such as kitchen surfaces and chopping boards until spotless. Learnt the colored chopping boards and what food item to prepare on them to ensure safety. Where and how to store various food items in the fridge and freezer. All residents dietary needs and their abilities.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying my programme but now feel I really would like to develop my skills more by thoroughly cooking a meal start to finish, as I feel im more developed to suit this role. I will be speaking to chef manager and manager of the home to ensure I develop more skills.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I applied online and got an interview then someone who works for ancor kept in touch with me by text until my referances and everything came through and I had a start date. I also attended an induction meeting in Bradford and met over apprentices and began my rols in the care location.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of help from both the kitchen, care staff and my apprentice advisor through text also my babcock trainer who visits monthly. on a day to day basis I am well though of y staff and looked after as any struggles I have or am dealing with are delt with within hours of being at work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a bit of help from my trainer, she comes to visit my care location monthly and trains me on certain aspects. I can contact her through text, however it isn't much help I receive from her personally rather she just teaches me what I need to know strategically.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It doesn't really help me rather inform me of information ill store away and only use for my exam (written)at the end of the apprenticeship. its moreover simple information like basic food safety or complex legal and governance regultions I don't really need to know other than my exam.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • With other apprentices I sometimes come to headquarters in Bradford and learn new skills or do face to face training for things like dementia awareness, food safety etc. there are also coffee morning held regularly at my location. we also sometimes bake with the reidents things like cakes and scones.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Anchor Trust to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend because of the good environment there is at work, th friendly and approachable staff both in kitchen and care, lots of help outside such as trainer and advisor who takes us to Bradford for events like national apprentice week etc. also because its an easy way to get qualifications.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Anchor Trust?
  • I would personally recommend updating your team leader if youre struggling or not sure of something in your role such as a unresolved issue. make sure to always listen to feedback wether it be good or bad to make sure you delevop your skills to your fullest potential to better your role.
