as port of my role everyday I support residents with all personal care needs and dressing I always offer choice . I assist with meals and feeding. when residents ask to go on walks in the garden or to the shops I am always up for going and in our care home we have chickens which I take residents to collect the eggs which they enjoy getting fresh air and getting to see the chickens .
I have learnt some new kills such as safeguarding and I have been on dementia training this is helped me support our residents living with dementia I have completed lots of training on anchor eLearning computer system . I have also completed my care certifcate which is an induction into health and social care
I have enjoyed my programme I get to work aside experienced work members who have supported me in developing into a confident care assistant my tutor comes every month to help and push me to get my level 2 diploma . as I really love getting that warm feeling after knowing I have helped someone .
I applied online then they rang to attend a interview then they kept intouch with me until my dbs and reference came then I attended my anchor induction then I started in the care home next day after a month my tutor came to introduce herself and start me on the qualification
at the work place I have done shadow shifts and was given a buddy to be showen what to do I also have a mentor who is an ex apprentice then my apprentice advisor comes every 6 weeks but always available by text or email I also have support by deputy and manger
my tutor is very helpful she vists once a month she will exsplain in detail whats going to happen and whats next then she leaves me work to complete before her next visit I can always get through to her if I need before next visit if I have any problems
it has given me a better understanding and knowledge of my role with regards to how present my self in a professional manner how to communicate with residents and staff members. how to understand and deal with difficult situations and for example when residents ask to go home I have been showen how to deal with it.
we have regular gym sessions where we take the residents to and we have a weekly shop we take residents to tescos and for a coffee after. if residents suggest ideas we look in to it so we can make it happen and take them to what they want to do
Yes
anchor is a very good welcoming home from doing my apprenticeship I feel I have not only improved my working skills but also I have growen as a person I feel I have matured and gained confidence not being afraid to voice my opinion if I am worried or concerned about anything
don't be afraid to ask questions, asking for help if I am unsure of what to do . to always right notes on what you have learnt or seen to pass on to someone don't stand back get straight involved its the best way to learn and develop yourself
