  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role as an apprentice care asssisant is to provide personal care for the residents in our care home, i do this by taking into account there wishes and preferences. i involve the residents in day to day activities and have 1-1 time with them so they get to know me as well as myself getting to know them

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • my time at the care home has taught me the different kinds of dementia and how to assist them with that illness its also taught me how to properly care for people with ilness's that are treatable and some that are not. ive learnt how to communicate in different ways such as sign language and the manual alphabet that i didnt know how to before

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i already knew that caring was something that was always for me but being in the programme has made me realise that i love my job even more, its a very satisfying job and very rewarding knowing that your coming home from a days work knowing youve made someones day easier

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the way my programme is very organised i always know when things are available to me and im always aware of where im up to, i never feel pressured when doing my work and i always know that there is someone i can speak to about anything relating to my job.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • my employer always give me support when im struggling to understand something or if im finding something a bit difficult, my employer always gives me a confident boost and that makes me feel confident when im struggling to do something. i feel very appreciated when im working and this makes the programme even that bit better

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • my trainer arranges regular visits with me to do work and also to help me with work i struggled to do. i recieve regualr messages off her asking if i find the work ok. i always feel very supported when speaking to her because i dont feel as if im being put under pressure to complete the work in a short space of time

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • by my trainer giving me a clear understanding of the end goal makes me understand that targets that are given to me are to benefit me reaching my NVQ at the end, it makes me feel that i can do whatevers thrown at me because im always given help with anything that i need help with

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • at my care home we have activities every day all day for the carers and the residents to get involved with. We have tesco trips out for the residents we go for a coffee also, we hav bingo, quizzes, film days, bake off, cupcake making, 1-1 activities, coffee mornings. its always a fun filled day at are care homes

  • anchor care home is definitey by far the best care homes, its a good place to work for the staff all the staff work well together witch makes your day better and promotes a happy enviroment for all the customers. support given is second to none i thank anchor for this opportunity
