  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I was a technology intern looking at optimizing processes for MS. Working closely with my colleagues in Operations, I designed information systems to collect key metrics like weight and cargo type, without adding to the operational burden of manual input. Working in a fast-paced agile team with iterations and product launches every week was an incredible experience.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt more about computer programming, developed interpersonal skills, and learnt more about the firm. In particular, Morgan Stanley’s in-house tech stack teams give it the flexibility to build proprietary software to harness the immense amount of data to enable the more timely trading of stocks. Morgan Stanley’s expertise in C++ also complements its push towards developing its own internal platforms.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I loved what i did. i knew more about what it meant to be technologist. I believe a role as a technologist is a good fit for my interests and personality. I thoroughly enjoyed my time being a practitioner of the Lean Startup method in Carigos, where I analyzed raw data from our market validation tests to make data-driven tweaks to our Minimum Viable Product. Working closely with my colleagues in Operations, I designed information systems to collect key metrics like weight and cargo type, without adding to the operational burden of manual input.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It was well planned, and there was a dedicated staff every day to guide us. I learnt that a simple act goes a long way to help someone. For example, reducing a teammates' duties in a stressful period ironically enhanced overall productivity, with the team reaping benefits from higher morale. As a leader, I look to use of my gifts and position to influence others positively.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I learnt from dedicated trainers and guides, and each taught me how to use the software at MS. I met teammates individually to discuss viable solutions to improve our projects. By being able to speak to them individually, I developed personal rapport, and learnt more about the job. In the long term, this contributed to a stress-free work environment where I felt comfortable to share my problems openly.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I now know more about the algorithmic thinking processes behind computer programs, and can more effectively discharge my role as a student. My problem-solving skills were also put to the test when I ran 8 Lean experiments around our hypotheses on our customers’ cost-reliability decision matrix. This helps me to better understand processes in the future.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Morgan Stanley to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • For the firm culture, the uniqueness of the work, and the prestige. Morgan Stanley appeals to me for its central focus on technology. In particular, Morgan Stanley’s in-house tech stack teams give it the flexibility to build proprietary software to harness the immense amount of data to enable the more timely trading of stocks. Morgan Stanley’s expertise in C++ also complements its push towards developing its own internal platforms. Within its niche in the wealth management field, efforts to robotically automate processes have also successfully reduced risks in compliance and credit worthiness checks.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Morgan Stanley?
  • Just be yourself, and be professional, consider your team's effort more than your inconvenience. Get involved in different projects in school, always add value, be conscientious of your own image, be hardworking, be genuine, be helpful. be enthusiastic to want to participate in different programs at morgan stanley and with other employees.
