  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on the first line helpdesk supporting the internet connection for the National Health Service. My team is the faults team and can deal with things ranging from internet routers going unreachable, their internet running slow, not being able to access certain websites. We can either resolve this remotely, or will send an Engineer out.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my Apprenticeship I have learnt a lot of different skills, whilst developing those that I already have. I have learnt how to test internet lines on various different systems and the ins and out of the HSCN network and how it supports the NHS. I have also developed my communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do actually in fact really enjoy the apprenticeship programme of which I am currently working on as the day to day work that I handle and take part in has allowed me a greater understanding of how everything works. My team members are great and I am pushed the right amount so that I can perform my best.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I personally believe that the programme itself is very well structured and organised, so that I am always aware of what is happening and what I need to be doing. We have monthly meetings with our Apprenticeship coach so that we know exactly how we are getting on and have a chance to raise any concerns.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In terms of support that I receive coming from my Employer, I feel that I do receive a very good amount of help when it is needed, but also we have not requested it in the form of information that pushes us to get through the required work assigned to us.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In terms of support that I receive coming from my Employer, I feel that I do receive a very good amount of help when it is needed. When working in the direction of obtaining our required qualifications, our employer provides us all with the required information, resources, teaching and an acceptable environment to work in.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualification that I was able to receive through BT has largely helped me to perform better in my job role as I now have a much greater understanding of the ins and outs of the network that our services and data runs through, allowing me to visualise it (and any faults) better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At my work I get involved in lots of extra curricular activates, and have the chance to as my team are that of one which enjoys doing such a thing. We have fairly regular team nights out where we do things including ice skating, Top Golf and even mini golf.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BT to a friend as I feel that the company, the office, and the working environment are all of a very high calibre. I enjoy the role that I do, helping Customers and especially the team which I am situated ion. All of this means I would in fact recommend it to a friend, and have done on multiple occasions.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • I would tell others to simply just be themselves and they will fir right in. Everyone here has a similar mind-set and feels motivated to help BT grow overall as an organisation. I would tell others to make sure that they understand BT is a perfect place for a career, not just a job.
