1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

on a day to day basis i am required to go out to client sites and assist with audit like tasks. these can either be in relation to the year end or a selected interim period. The aim is to gain assurance over the financial statements provided by the client. This is through substantive analytical procedures and inquires of management

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i have learnt what audit means and the different aspects and angles an audit can be approached from. i have also bridge my knowledge gap and learnt the difference between the clients responsibilities and the auditors responsibilities. this is knowledge that i have since been able to pass on to my subordinates

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

there are many aspects to the programme i am currently on. there is the apprenticeship side and the professional qualification side. The professional aspect provides useful insight into the world of accounting and i am able to regularly apply the knowledge i pick up at college. however the apprenticeship side is a waste of time and adds no value anywhere

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?

there are 2 sides to the programme i am currently on. there is the apprenticeship side and the professional qualification side. the professional qualification side is very rigid and well structured, i know when i am in college when my exams are months in advance and what is expected of me. however, and maybe because its not clear why we are doing it the apprenticeship isnt well organised at all

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer, we are allocated set days to go to college and never expected to work during this time. we are reminded regularly that college and our professional qualification come first. We also get the week of an exam off work fully paid and are able to buy extra holiday to book additional days off.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

There is a lot of material and support offered from BPP. We are often in college for a 2 week period during which we go through a lot of the content with some questions left to do as homework then return after a few weeks for a recap session and a mock which highlights the areas for improvments we also have a coach individually assisgned and alot of access to online materials

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Audit and accounting require a deep technical knowledge, along with the application of that knowledge. Through the qualification we learn to do this in a really productive way and learn about the industrys standards and how they apply to business and the effects there would be without these. This aids in audit and providing an unqualified opinion

8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

there are variety of socials we have the oppourtunity to get involved in, i myself am part of the birmingham netball team, the charity commitee and each year i have taken part in a cricket event. I also regualrly attend the socials and where possible attend the cafe cultre drinks on the 1st friday of the month

9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?

9b. Why?

Deloitte are one of the big 4 accounting firms, but they are not just involved in accounting. the avenues and oppourtunities they offer are endless. and you can pick up a really good qualification at the same time. They have locations globally which means the world is literally yours to explore and work.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?

just do it, apply, even if its just a general idea you dont know where it would take you. Be yourself, respect and inclusion are big here. diversity is important the values they hold are really good. ask loads of questions and only apply for something you think you can be passionate about it will show.
