  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I assist in doing tasks which include servicing and inspections as well as repairs on the vehicles. I work with various members of the team and will always try to learn and experience new tasks where possible. I learn by being able to complete the tasks myself; this allows me to find the fastest and most efficient way to complete jobs.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am developing my existing skills as well as picking up new skills from completing practical work and being exposed to different tasks. This is mainly by using a range of tools both hand and power. This means I can develop my confidence every time I carry out tasks requiring these.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the mix of practical work as well as the theoretical side of my job. I enjoy having the responsibility to attempt jobs myself and having the help available from more experienced members of the team if and when I require it. This allows me to learn for myself.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My program follows a relatively simple structure which allows me to easily identify the work which I need as evidence for progression in my apprenticeship. Occasionally I feel there is a lack of expose to different types of jobs multiple times which allow me to consistently improve my work. This results in my assessor to have multiple visits before they are able to perform my observations.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my employer who are able to pair me with experienced members of the team in case I require assistance in completing any jobs and are available to answer any questions I may have. I feel that my employer recognises the importance of exposing me to multiple types of jobs to allow me to gain experience across the board.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider (skillnet assessor) is extremely helpful in highlighting what tasks I need to complete my qualification as well as making regular visits to check on my progression. The college aspect allows me to learn tasks I may otherwise not be exposed to at my workplace however I do feel that sometimes there can be miscommunications regarding how the work needs to be completed to meet all of the necessary criteria.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification allows me to learn a whole range of tasks and the workings behind them. This gives me knowledge to complete tasks more independently at work and develop my confidence. The knowledge from the qualification allows me to work more efficiently and attempt tasks I may previously not have done.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Currently there are very limited opportunities for extra curricular activities at my workplace. I feel if there were to be then morale would be increased and the teamwork aspect between team members would be improved, this would be directly beneficial to the work environment and would result in a more efficient team.

  • 9a. Would you recommend MOTUS Commercials to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • My programme has allowed me to develop skills and gain experience in an environment that I am passionate about. I enjoy being provided with different ways of learning. The company is a popular dealer who places an importance on providing good customer service. There is a good support network for apprentices as well.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MOTUS Commercials?
  • I would recommend writing a good curriculum vitae and being able to show where you can apply yourself to all aspects of the job. Previous experience however small will be beneficial but most importantly you must be able to show willing to learn and progress. Being polite and courteous also goes a long way!
