I work at a dressage stable yard so on a day to day basis I muck out, groom horses, clean the yard, fill up haynets, do morning, lunch and dinner time feeding, I also wash down horses after exercise and rug them accordingly to the warmth and the weather. I also tack up horses ready for exercise.
During my level 3 apprenticeship I have learnt how to take care of horses, groom them, wash them, feed them, muck them out properly, bandage and rug them. I have also learnt how to lunge horses with is a form of non-ridden exercise. I have learnt to lead horses too and from the field safely.
I enjoy the program very much, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has a love and passion for horses, this course teaches you a great deal about horses from the simple and basic things to the extraordinary complicated things. The staff are very friendly and teach you everything you are willing to learn.
The program comes in a folder with different tasks each month, you always have a set target to meet but if you do not reach your target then they always offer a helping hand. This program also offers different events to bring the employees together. Overall I wouldn’t change the organisation of anything.
My employer always offers me a helping hand as I struggle a lot when it comes to paperwork and pressure, they never do the work for me but they tell me things in a better way for me to understand further. I’m practical work they show me how to do the things and guide along with it.
My training provider also there when I need them even when I’m not working or they are not working I can always ring them up and ask for help and advise. They always team up with my employer to help me benefit more from the paperwork which means a great deal to me.
I have already passed my level 2 horse care apprenticeship so that has befitted me in starting level 3 because I have the basic knowledge, understanding and the confidence. When learning new things I always realise that all this will help me in future life to working towards next goals.
The stables I am working at go to local shows and big competitions, I also have sessions with people that are also on my level 3 every couple of months. They also do awards, first aid classes, and master classes where you can get trained by professionals on how to ride properly.
Yes
I would recommend this company to friends, family’s, employers, everybody because you gain so much experience, you start to fit in an feel like part of a team, part of another family. Everybody always tries there best to support you so you can succeed further in life. This is the best experience of my life.
You must be a reliable, Harding working, determined person to do this course, it doesn’t matter what gender you are this is an apprenticeship for anyone. You must be able to work outside in all weathers and try not to have many days of, you need to be dedicated as horses can not clean, feed and muck out themselves.
