  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The is a commercial Finance apprentice, which is more of a management accounting role. The role involves financial reporting on Revenues to multiple Stakeholders, majority of work is analysis Data to show accurate and valid information for its users. During periods of Month-end I get involved to a great extend in Cost reporting and Cost analysis.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my analysis skills, also I have improved my knowledge of accounting software such as SAP and also Excel skills to process the raw data that I extract from the accounting software. The new skill that I have learnt in professional communication which I think loads of young people lack upon leaving school.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I'm very happy with my program, I know the progress I am making and also what are the next steps that I need to take in order to progress on to the next level. I have a Virtual learning platform that helps me monitor my 20% off job progress as well as my professional Qualification.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The learning program organised By BPP is fairly well structured to help me progress with the Qualification that is ACCA fairly quickly and professionally, they do this by ensuring I pass the current paper before worrying about the next. However some times there is communication delays which creates Gaps of information.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer provides a lot of support, structuring my working week around my learning and personal development, they provided new opportunities to have a wide variety of work and also provide significant amount of Coaching, mentoring and counseling support. my line manager sub reviews performance of each team member quarterly.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider ensures that materials are always provided, the lectures are good as well as they aim to ensure you go and pass your compulsory examinations however the also look to expand the knowledge beyond the book and make you think towards applying it in the day to day role.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that the Qualification expands my knowledge and understanding of what my role is and how it should be performed to the best ethical and professional standard, however I think the actual practical side of things such as creating reports and addressing stakeholders in the business has not yet been covered by the qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The company is very proactive in encouraging extra team activities. there is always an event on every week and its up to the individual to get involved on their own accord. As well as choosing to up in 3-4 times a year it department gets away from day to day roles and gets involved in the community.

  • Yes

  • The work environment and the company's approach to 21st century working is very positive it allows great work life balance while it still has a strong view on developing people for the future, as a starting place it's really a good place for getting your foot in the door of the professional working life.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to City & Guilds Group?
  • You have to make yourself stand out from the rest, you have to have things on Your CV that defines you as a person other than School/college education, although that helps too. by having loads of personal experiences you give the impression that your a self motivator meaning you will achieve what's expected without close monitoring
