  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am involved in both tax compliance and tax advisory work for clients. The tax compliance work I undertake consists of tasks such as correspondence with HMRC regarding clients' corporation tax position, preparation of corporation tax computations and preparing client correspondence upon review of the computations. The tasks I complete for the advisory work varies, but this may be researching companies and their industries, determining the appropriate tax implications of corporate actions and summarising the work performed by either myself or colleagues.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured. When I started, I was given an exam timetable that outlined my exam path until the end of the year. I am always aware of when my next exam is, and I feel that the firm allocates an appropriate amount of time to study for each exam.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my exam schedule has been set up in a way that meant I was able to understand more my role earlier on in the apprenticeship. Taking the principles of tax exam first allowed me to obtain some technical knowledge which has helped me day to day. In addition, I have been able to use my knowledge from the accounting exam to better understand the procedures we use in the firm.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is plenty to get involved in at the office. For example, I have been playing 5 a side football on a Thursday evening whenever I can, and this has lead me to being put in charge of organising it every week when I'm in the office. There are also plenty of social events that allow me to get to know people in the office that I wouldn't usually get to interact with.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Deloitte to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have settled in to working life more easily than I thought I would and a large part of that has to do with the people I work with at the firm. Everyone has been really friendly and it has been nice to meet so many likeminded people. At a big firm like Deloitte, it is more likely that you will meet people that are similar to you in terms of their interests etc

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Deloitte?
  • I would recommend applying as early as possible as this shows that you have a genuine interest in working here. At the assessment days/interviews, don't be afraid to ask the interviewer questions and be sure to demonstrate how much you know about the firm and why you want to work there.
