  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role on a day to day basis involves owning my own project and continuing to drive this every day. This will involve leading up meetings with the stakeholders in my project and also ensuring that everything is in place in order to be able to progress the project. The end goal is to roll out the technology that I am delivering and get this out for our customers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills whilst working in my delivery role. I have gained a clear understanding on what is required to be able to manage people and also manage each step in BT's delivery process. I have also learnt new skills from a technical perspective as well as soft skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme because it gives me the opportunity to further my studying whilst working a day to day job, therefore picking up valuable work related skills also. I really enjoy this also due to the variety of work that I have experienced at BT. This has allowed me to find out what I most enjoy and where I want to take my career.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This is probably the only thing that has been inconsistent throughout the programme. Some things are unclear and answers for these are sometimes hard to gather. It has been unclear on what we needed to do in order to complete our apprenticeship but this has now been finalised. This has started to improve.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all the support necessary from my employer. As an apprentice at BT there is always support available when you need it. The employees are easy to approach and I have never been in a position where I have had no support. It is expected that as an apprentice at BT you are not expected to know everything so support is always there.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support is there from the training provider if it is needed. As a University student we are expected to get on with any assignments we have but if anything is unclear we can go to our lecturer for support. Tutorials are also on offer for any students that need them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There are modules that we have done which has helped enormously with my day to day role. These have been very specific to my role and I have used the skills I picked up within the work place. These have helped me with projects at work and would not have been able to do this without the skills picked up from University.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are always volunteering opportunities at BT to get involved in. These vary from helping out at school events to advertise the apprenticeship or just a general volunteering activity such as helping out the community. I have been involved in lots of volunteering activities and this gives you a chance to give back to the apprenticeship.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend BT to a friend due to the opportunities that have developed since I've worked here. The variety of work and the university degree that are on offer is very good to be a part of. As well as this, rotating job role every 6 months during the apprenticeship gives you a wider view of the business and allows you to experience new things and meet new people.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • The main bit of advice I would give to someone applying at BT is to be confident in yourself. This is easier said than done, but the company loves someone that is confident and shows a passion for joining. Also putting in plenty of research into the company to show that you are well prepared and are proactive also.
