  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a dual skilled maintenance engineer envoles completing reactive and pro active maintenance repairs to the factory machinery. This involves planned repairs and maintenance on machines and plant services. It can also involve helping with tasks along side the team leaders to improve processes. The day is often very busy.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my skill of time management deeply, as often the repairs to machinery are unplanned and the machines need to be running again fast so that he factory can resume full operation. As time is money. I have also learnt the new skill of thinking outside the box and looking at problems from all angles.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme that I am on fully. I think that it is one of the best apprenticeships available right now. It’s a great working environment and the college that I attend is great. The facilities are really good. As well as this it’s nice to get a hire car for travel.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that the programme is very well structured. At the start of the apprenticeship I was told about what I was going to learn and when. I was also informed on how the end point assessment worked and all of the exams and course work was graded. It’s structured very well

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe that the college (Birmingham metropolitan college) provides full support to me as a student. They provide reviews on progress every 6 weeks. This is really helpful to see that I am on track and how I can improve my work and apply myself more and more in both practical and class room lessons.

  • Yes. There’s a football team at work at which we can get involved in. But other than that, not so much. Our work does have a cycle to work scheme which is an incentive to do exercise in a good way. But there could be more extra activities to get involved with
