  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • During the time with GSK you will join several departments within the company so each day and rotation is different. With engineering especially it varies on a day to day basis as you react to breakdown so it’s never the same which is really exciting as it is never boring.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes of course I have learnt new skills as I came in after my GCSEs and only had product design as a background however even with very little knowledge I have developed my skills from talking and practically doing the different task that are require every day from the site.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my program and believe it was the best decision I made not to do A levels as everyone is really supportive and help me to gain the skills needed for the task. Also it is really exciting at GSK as we do a lot of group and social activities which you don’t get at other companies.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This program has been really organised for me as the transition between GCSEs to working has been delt with well even to the point of going to a day for the college do get to know everyone there. Also when you change to another department you shadow another apprentice who you already know making it easier to get to know people.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Like stated before the help I have received has been incredible from the techs teaching you the role, the other apprentices showing you the job role and line manager always being able to help just improve the atmosphere that help is always available and to not be scared to ask for help

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I personally get a lot of help and support when working towards my qualifications as even in the half terms I could go into college and catch up on my assignments. Also GSK enrolls you on practical qualifications so that we learn more from qualified engineers helping us understand our role further.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As stated before I feel that the extra qualifications have helped as it has gained me the extra knowledge to succeed in my role and instead of the techs teaching me things I would have already been taught through doing these extra learning. Also it’s you do it with the other apprentices making it more enjoyable.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes definitely. Gsk thrive of group activities between both the different apprentices and the full time engineers themselves. Recently all the apprentices in the UK have just been to a resilience event away from site all funded by GSK. And in April we are due to be doing Outward Bounds which is a physical week, doing things like rock climbing/ abseiling & high ropes.

  • 9a. Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because of the help and support hey give us and also the pay is good compared to other companies. But most importantly the environment which the staff create is the best part of coming to work everyday as everyday is different it just makes it exciting to see what will happen today.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • Just be yourself and if you are the right person for the job then you will get it. Also just make sure you be yourself during the interview part as it will be easily noticeable if you are just trying to act and say what you think they want you to behave.
