  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Electrical engineering is a complex industry which I really had no clue about before starting my apprenticeship. I have now grown to really enjoy the job, it’s includes performing activities such as daily finding, installation, removal and repair. All tasks which I find satisfying and easy to enjoy whilst performing them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have delivered skills that include team working, analytical skills and my time keeping skills. I have been able to Develop these skills by using the help and resources available. I am still looking for new ways to develop and enhance my skills everyday to make me a better individual.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have extremely enjoyed my programme so far as it has been a great way to make new friend ships as well as learining skills aand gaining great experience’s. I really enjoy being able to explore new fields of engineering that I have not been able to see before.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme has been set up in a way which suits the apprentices best. It makes me feel comfortable and as if I am able to be heard when performing work in such a big indurty. I feel confident in performing work and this is down to the car that the company provides.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer (gsk) has been extremely considerate and helpful when I have needed any help throughout my time. Any questions that I have needed to ask have always been replied to with in-depth answers which provide a lot of help. My company are always in contact to make sure that I am well.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is a lot of support given wether that be online or formal support, there is always a way around any problems that Occour. The training providers do a lot to make sure the apprentice is always at there best will and always keep in contact to make sure you are on track.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Without the qualifications and training I wouldn’t have gained half of the skills that I have. The training helps develop not only your knowledge but also skills such as your confidence and team working skills. The qualifications also come in handy as they are nationally recognised and are great to have.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are some such as outward bound courses which Involeve meeting up with other apprentices from all over the country and performing activities to help develop your team building skills. These courses also help to develop confidence and personality. I enjoyed my tips away as they were full of things To do.

  • 9a. Would you recommend GSK to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend as the company are extremely helpful and as well as being able to work towards nationally recognised qualifications I am able to do so and get paid to do it at the same time(that is always a bonus) it is good being able to acquire the skills whilst under the watch of gsk’s well trained employees.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to GSK?
  • When it comes to the interview process try your best to prepare well in advanced so when it comes so the day you aren’t worried. Make sure you do lots of before hand research as to what the company and specifically the plant you are applying for specialises in.
